    Default PTP Kicker Mount Review

    Here's a how-to posted on MSF:

    http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...stalled-40195/

I got it installed over the wknd by Jimmy and yes, it does add some vibes to it, so I'm hoping to test/see another MS3 with the ETD to compare the difference. It is basically a second rear engine mount, which has a similar effect as the ETD. I can't say for certain because I never had both.

Anyway, my impression so far and more to come:

    1. Car vibes a bit, maybe 30% more at idle and decel. Just a bit more at cruise, maybe 10%.
    2. I think I have solved 80% of wheel-hop from stock, now with the CP-e RMM and PTP tranny mount.
    3. Torque steer has also lowered. By more than 50% than before install of the kicker mount.
    4. I can spin 3rd gear.

Hopefully the mount will break in a bit. Will report back with more impressions.

Are your thoughts that this is needed even with a aftermarket RMM?

Yes. Many have had great results with the ETD. In my view, they do similar things at different points of the engine/chassis. Whereas the ETD is a much thinner stock (read: NOT any weaker at what it does), it transmits the vibes from the stiffer connection in a similar fashion but at a higher frequency.

The kicker mount, being of much thicker stock, will likely transmit vibes of lower frequency...

Also, I feel quite a bit of improvement of torque steer and wheel-hop...I wouldn't say it's NEEDED, but it's a definite improvement.

I've had my eye on this for some time now. I'm waiting to see if it can be installed on the mz3. Good review; let us know how it breaks in.

    how did i miss this.....

would you recommend this if you only have the RMM and the ETD...or do you need the other side mounts to go along with this kicker mount.

I'd say, from my experience, all the mounts can be independent upgrades, unless you like a set, like the SU's. However, since it bolts the engine at the same corner as the ETD, I don't know if both are necessary.

I'm running PTP tranny and kicker mount, CP-e RMM, and stock passenger mount.

Glad you got it! Now that the CSCS season is over, the mods come out eh . Curious to see how the Kicker breaks in.

You can try out my car next time we meet up... Should give you a comparison on the ETD vs Kicker.

now that Jason has his installed, I guess I should do an update:

    1. Vibes are still there...only real bad on real cold starts when the engine is revving close to 2000rpm stationary...as the engine warms and rpm's drop, the vibes will settle down, and then it's just like as if you only have a rear engine mount.

    2. Wheel-hop is close to being 100% cured...only if the launch isn't 100% would I get a couple of hops followed by wheelspin.

    3. Haven't had a chance to push the cars in corners like I would on a track, but it definitely improved whatever drivetrain slop I had left....can't wait to see the difference on a track.

I will visually inspect the mount next time it's on a hoist to show how it stands against the elements.
